Hello Ms. Howard. Happy Mother's Day! I work at the post office in Cincinnati with your friend Tony Smith. We briefly chatted on the telephone a few weeks ago if you recall. It was good talking to you. I'm a big fan of country music and the Opry. Tony tells me you'll be in town this week and that he may bring you by to meet some of the guys at work Friday night. I hope you can make it down as I would like to meet you. My dad is a fan of yours and I may even arrange for him to meet you to. I will talk to Tony this week and see if it can be arranged. Have a nice day and a safe trip up. Mike

Dear Jan, It was a great pleasure to be introduced to you last evening at the Medallion Ceremony at the Hall of Fame and Museum! Ron Harmon and I have been good friends since I arrived into Nashville six months ago from Minnesota. He talks highly of you, and all of his Opry friends. Ron has been very supportive of my music career and I consider myself fortunate to have met a good friend here in Nashville! I enjoyed reading your biography and letters to your fans. You have lived a remarkable life, and I appreciate your words of wisdom! Life is too short to not take a chance on a dream. I trust GOD, that I'm exactly where I'm meant to be. I hope to visit with you again in the near future and thanks for all you've done for woman in country music! Sincerely, Stephanie Layne

Jan, I was saddened last night to hear you and Jim Ed mention that Mrs. Smith had passed. My brother and I feel fortunate to have met her at one of the GVA shows and we were there in 2003 when you passed your award to her. Last time we met in June of 2004 you had just lost your home to a fire but you were carrying on as you always do no matter what you face. Hope 2005 is a better year for you. Take care and keep playing the Opry, your the first name I look for when I see the lineup each week. Jim

Dear Jan: Thanks so much for signing the old publicity photos. Regarding the early one from Decca, I even have the press release which goes with it. It begins: "Friday the 13th isn't always unlucky -- in fact, it should go down as a lucky day for lovers of Country Music, for it was Friday the 13th in March when JAN HOWARD was born in West Plains, Missouri..." I was fortunate enough to obtain these vintage Jan Howard photos from the estate of country songwriter, author and champion fan clubber Charles "Chaw" Mank, Jr. (1902-1985). Did you know Chaw? He came down to Nashville quite a bit (Fan Fair, TV appearances, etc.) and journeyed every year to Aspen, Colorado, for the Nashville recording artists and songwriters convention. I profiled the life of Chaw Mank in the January-February 1990 issue of now-defunct Illinois Magazine. His many friends in country music included Cowboy Copas, Faron Young, Conway Twitty, Jim Reeves, Loretta Lynn, and Johnny Dollar. Great web site!

Jan, I have been enjoying your singing for years. I even had the pleasure of seeing you perform on the Grand Ol' Opry, several times. I understand that Bobby Bare is a great friend of yours. One of my fellow heart transplant recipients, Micky Byrne, in England UK, told me that he had the honor of playing steel guitar backup for Bobby Bare, a few times. You may have also, been on the same shows, at the time. I rec'd my heart transplant 14 years ago. Micky Byrne rec'd his heart transplant 6 years ago. I am also a grinnin' guitar pickin' Texan. Well, so much for Micky and I......back to you and your great contribution to the C/W music field. LIT'L LADY, YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY GREAT!! Ol' Bob in Texas

Dear Jan: I am so upset for you regarding your website. What the H___ are these people trying to do? Instead of doing something stupid, why don't they spend their time trying make the world a little bit better. I hope you don't have to close your site because of this, but your TRUE fans would understand. If these people have so much time on their hands, maybe they could come here to Florida & help us rebuild our homes which were destroyed by Hurricane Jeanne. Maybe they could go to Indonesia or Sri Lanka, etc. & do some good for those less fortunate. I just can't understand people.

Brad, I am fairly certain I know the individual(s) that are doing this both on Jan's and Jeannie Seely's - they contacted me a while back with all this - I tried to smooth over the disagreement they had (?) with Jeannie and Jan - didn't work out the way they wanted it to - so reckon this is their way of continuing the problem - I believe it will be taken care of soon.
